For Low Earth Orbiting applications, the X/Y design offers several
advantages over the more traditional "Elevation-over-Azimuth"
system. As there is no overhead cone of silence, or high Azimuth
slew rates normally associated with overcoming this problem typically
found in the Elevation-over-Azimuth systems. As a consequence of
this, the X/Y design requires substantially less power, and in most
applications can operate from a standard single phase 16A supply.
CGC Technology currently produces X/Y antennas with reflectors that
range from 1.8m to 7m diameter, for use in the L, S, and X frequency
bands. These Antennas are ideal for tracking Low Earth Orbiting
Satellites for a variety of applications (Remote Sensing, Communications,
and Telemetry Tracking & Command). The Antennas are environmentally
sealed and ruggedly constructed to give many years of low maintenance
operation. CGC Technology is able to customize the pedestal and
support structures to suit customer requirements, we are also able
to provide an Installation Service and Civil Engineering advice.
A typical system will consist of:
- Tracking Antenna Pedestal
- Reflector - 1.8m to 7m
- Dual-Axis Clinometer
- Servo Cabinet
- Servo Cables
Options include:
- RF Equipment - (Feed, LNA, Downconverter, etc)
- Antenna Control PC with Control and Scheduling Software
- GPS Time Synchronisation
- Radome
- Anti-Ice kits
- Lightning Protection
- CE Marking
- Extended Temperature Range
Antenna Safety Features:
- Zenith-on-PWRON After a power failure, as the Antenna re-boots
it will automatically return to the zenith position.
- Power Isolator on the Control Cabinet Exterior.
- External Ground Bonding.
- Current Limits - to prevent motor damage.
- Software Limits - limits motion to within factory specified
limits.
- Hardware Limits - limits motion avoiding damage.
- Radome Aircraft Warning Lights.
